The Central Artery/Tunnel Project has confirmed that significant elements of the Old Colony Bridge have been retained and put into storage. Also, a process will be in place to determine how these and other archeological elements may be re-erected (arranged) in a pocket park planned along the Fort Point Channel next to a new, as yet unbuilt Vent Building.

Mass Highway is not funding this entire project. Artery Planners, in collaboration with local civic activists will seek additional funding from corporate abutters whose history is related to Boston commerce or who identify with the Fort Point District.

SAND extends its appreciation to Fred Yalouris of MHD for convincing the demolition contractor to carry out the pro-bono storage work. Hopefully something interesting can be staged at this park to recall the unique evolution of the city's topography in this area while conveying the mercantile, maritime and rail related histories of the Fort Point Channel and South Cove/Leather Districts.

Note: If you are interested in this or other Central Artery projects along the Fort Point Channel, please consider attending an Artery meeting, held at 6:00 PM on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Childrens Museum. To visit the SAND calendar, click here.
