On Tuesday November 17, at a "Build Boston" tradeshow and conference sponsored by the Boston Society of Architects, a Seaport District panel convened to discuss the current state of the planning effort. Panelists included Boston City Council President Jim Kelly, Linda Haar of the BRA, Richard Henderson of Massport, Architect Todd Lee of the BSA, Vivien Li of the Boston Harbor Association.

Linda Haar discussed the BRA's position regarding the agency's desire to zone the Seaport District for up to 66% residential development (supported by SAND). Councilor Kelly stated his opposition to a high number of residential units, mainly due to his concern over the changing demographic within the existing South Boston community and the potential for new housing to override the need for new jobs.

SAND was invited by the BSA to participate in this discussion. We instead opted to provide a printed statement for distribution to attendees. To read SAND's letter for Build Boston, click here
